If the internet wasn’t already hurting the US Postal Service revenue, closing post offices surely will.
If the closures do happen, this action will not only cause a temporary inconvenience, but most likely affect how business is transacted in the future. I see even more businesses switching to online communications and consumers conducting their shopping online when buying gifts and items that need to be shipped.
Not only may this situation affect the way you do business – but you also need to consider your customers. Might this change make it more difficult for them to do business with you? Can you offer a solution that would attract more customers?
As with every crisis, there generally arises opportunities for those who keep their eyes open. Existing mail service companies not in the US Postal system are likely to see an increase in business, and if the proposed “village post offices” go into effect, other local small businesses will be able to generate additional revenue as well.
Not to mention, more home-based and small business owners who need to continue mailing packages will be printing their postage at home with a personal postage meter.
