About $150,000 of the settlement funds will go to the state Department of Consumer Protection’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which collects prescription data on controlled substances that providers and pharmacists can track in treating patients. Money for the program, which is intended to stem prescription abuse and errors, had been slated to run out later this year.

Depakote is an anti-seizure and mood-stabilizing drug prescribed for bipolar disorder. Abbott acknowledged that it marketed the drug for unapproved uses, including treatment of schizophrenia, agitated dementia and autism.

The Islip Industrial Development Agency has approved a measure that could provide economic benefits to a $21.3 million mixed-use project in downtown Bay Shore, according to a statement.

The measure, announced by Islip Town Supervisor Tom Croci on Wednesday, was approved at a May 8 IDA meeting. It will allow the agency to offer tax abatements to New Jersey-based Chase Partners, which plans to build a four-story, 90-unit, 133,000-square-foot apartment/retail complex called Pace Cove at 11 Maple Ave.

The proposed project is expected to generate 150 construction jobs and 4 permanent jobs.

The 1.7-acre development site at the corner of Gibson Street was purchased from Eleven Maple Avenue Associates for $4.4 million, according to its IDA application.
