Farmingdale-based Telephonics Corp. announced Wednesday it is opening a new engineering facility in Huntsville, Ala. – its first location off Long Island.
The facility, located in Cummings Research Park, will house engineers from the company’s radar systems and communications and electronic systems divisions, as well as from subsidiary Systems Engineering Group. The Alabama location will primarily provide air and missile defense threat systems analysis and engineering; high fidelity modeling and simulation; and missile, radar and combat systems engineering design and performance analysis. Other work will include systems integration for communication and sensors for military application and platforms.
Telephonics, which employs about 1,300, is headquartered in Farmingdale and has three manufacturing locations on Park Avenue in Huntington.
In a prepared statement, Telephonics President and CEO Joseph Battaglia cited the Alabama research park’s close proximity to the Redstone Arsenal army base as a major reason in selecting the location of its new facility.
“The proximity to the Redstone Arsenal will facilitate our ability to expand our role with new and existing customers, not only as a provider of the engineering, advanced systems and technologies they need to better perform their missions, but also to ensure these systems are reliable, meet the users’ operational and mission requirements and are available at all times when needed,” Battaglia said in the statement. “We also see tremendous opportunities to foster the continuing economic development of Huntsville and of Madison County.”
Telephonics representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
