Zynga, the online game maker behind FarmVille and other popular Facebook pastimes, is going public, the latest in a crop of high-valued Internet IPOs expected after LinkedIn Corp. showed that the online networking craze is a hot commodity on Wall Street.
Zynga Inc. hopes to raise up to $1 billion in an initial public offering that follows LinkedIn’s sizzling stock market debut last month. The amount of money Zynga is seeking in its IPO will likely change as its bankers determine how many shares should be sold and at what price.

A new Indiana gun law takes effect Friday that prevents local governments from enforcing their own firearm restrictions.
The new law means localities no longer can block licensed gun owners from carrying their weapons into most public buildings, though there are exceptions for courthouses, schools and hospitals.
In St. Joseph County, officials have decided the courthouse exemption will apply to the County-City Building in downtown South Bend as well as the county courthouses, the County Services Building in Mishawaka and the Juvenile Justice Center in South Bend.
An underground walkway connects the County-City Building, a 14-story tower that houses offices for both the county and South Bend, with the two neighboring county courthouses. Read full post…

The National Union of Metalworkers’ of South Africa (Numsa) announced on Sunday a country-wide strike that could see more than 300 000 workers down their tools.
With more than 263 000 members, Numsa is demanding wage increases of 13% from the metal and engineering industries, down from an initial demand of 20%.
The mass action is scheduled to start on Monday after wage negotiations broke down and when an attempt by the Plastics Converters Association to have a labour court interdict the strike failed.
“The effect of the Labour Court ruling is to the effect that all workers in the engineering and metal workers, whether union members or not, can partake in strike action,” Numsa said in a statement.
“This shall have the effect that 320 000 can take part in strike action.”
Unions and employers in Africa’s biggest economy are in their mid-year bargaining session known locally as “strike season”, with many labour groups seeking a wage increase more than double the country’s 4.6% inflation rate. Read full post…

Many entrepreneurs find it difficult to sell, myself included. However, there’s no argument that we need to sell our products and services in order for our businesses to make any money.

Elaj Aveda Day Spa in Rockville, Md., may have clients in its salon seats and on its massage tables, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t hurting.
Owner Lynn Bearnarth told FBN’s Lauren Simonetti that her business is suffering under government regulation, namely unemployment taxes, which have doubled from 2009′s rate of $1,643 to 2010’s toll at $3,373 per employee.
“I try really hard… but the stress of running a business—people don’t realize how much you have on your shoulders,” Bearnarth said.
